You Can Play Hard
But Always Play Nice
We at Little Munchkins wish to reinforce positive behaviour and encourage our children’s individuality. Nursery rules are concerned with safety, care and respect for each other. Children need to have set boundaries of behaviour for their own safety and the safety of their peers. Within the nursery we aim to have an orderly environment in which children and adults know what is expected of them. Moreover, we wish to foster a setting wherein children are free to develop their play and learning without fear of being hurt or hindered by anyone else. Restrictions on the child’s natural desire to explore and develop their own ideas and concepts are kept to a minimum.
We aim to work towards a situation in which children can develop self-esteem and self-discipline in an atmosphere of mutual respect and encouragement. We will regularly review and evaluate the quality and breadth of the support we can offer or can access.
At Little Munchkins, our staff will try to provide a positive role model for the children with regard to friendliness, care about courtesy and to offer strategies for handling any conflict. All adults in the nursery will ensure that rules are applied consistently so that children have the security of knowing what to expect and can build up useful habits of behaviour. We will praise desirable behaviour such as kindness and willingness to share. we take positive steps to avoid a situation in which children will receive adult attention only in return for undesirable behaviour. Common strategies we will use to guide children include: distraction, the stepped approach, child’s name, highlight the rules.
We will also seek every opportunity to keep parents well-informed of not only their children’s behaviour throughout the day in addition strategies to help develop their personalities.
